As part of our research, we called JK Moving and asked about three different long-distance moves. The cost of these moves ranged from $8,833 to $13,370. Our pricing depended on various factors, including the distance, the size of each move, and any additional services required.
Unfortunately, with JK Moving, you’ll need to go through with a virtual survey in order to get an exact quote. In theory, this in-home inspection is pretty straightforward: You hop on Zoom, and spend a couple minutes in each room showing your agent how much stuff you have to move. However, it’s still not quite as convenient as a full quote that other NYC movers offer right after your phone call.
The prices below are based on our phone call with JK Moving. Fortunately, they’re still able to give you a ballpark figure if you provide the square footage of your house – and if you don’t know the exact square footage, they can look up your address and find it for you.

Our first move was a 7,000-pound relocation from California to Texas, and we got a ballpark price between $8,833 and $12,197. We asked about how much our move would cost with a few different extras included.
For the second move, we asked about a 3,500-pound relocation from California to New York. Our prices ranged from $12,920 to $16,130, depending on the extras and services we needed:
Finally, we asked about a 7,000-pound move from Illinois to Texas. We received a range of prices from $10,677 to $15,587, depending on the extras we needed.
When we called JK Moving, we had a really positive experience with our moving agent. We asked plenty of questions, and she took the time to make sure we knew everything we needed to know before we got our rough estimate. Read on to see what you can expect when you give them a call:
We’ve made a few of these secret shopper calls, and sometimes we have to wait on hold for more than 10 minutes. Fortunately, JK Moving picked right up after we navigated through an automated system, and the automated system didn’t take much time at all.
Our JK Moving rep was Laura. She was super helpful on the phone, and she was pleasant and professional the whole time through. It’s always nice to be put in touch with someone who cares about their job, instead of some bored intern or a third-party call center.
It’s a bit daunting to call in and ask about three different moves at once, but Laura took it in stride and walked us through the pricing and options for each relocation. She let us know what to expect next, and she also provided a bit of helpful information. Overall, we were really happy to chat with her on the phone.
During our conversation, Laura opened a file for us (free of charge, and just for keeping track of our moves, in case you were wondering) and let us know about the different services that would be available for our different moves.
Like other moving companies, JK Moving can provide packing and unpacking to make your life a little easier. However, they can also provide partial packing if you can handle the majority of the boxing yourself. Even if you have just a few tricky items, they can add partial packing to make sure those are wrapped, secured, and protected.
Aside from packing, JK also provides a broad menu of additional services such as storage and commercial moving. Being able to pick and choose your extras and add-ons gives you some much-needed flexibility when planning a move.
One of the other add-ons that really stood out was their full concierge service. If you’re moving out of state, JK can help you set up your utilities, transfer your driver’s license, and more. It’s a great way to get the administrative stuff out of the way and focus on your packing and hauling instead – and it’s totally free.
Moving companies are required by federal law to provide a base minimum of insurance coverage, but it’s only $0.60 per pound. That means if your 20-lb TV gets broken in transit, you’ll only get $12.00!
Fortunately, JK Moving provides full value insurance. It does come at a price, but it’s good peace of mind to have in case you’re moving anything valuable or delicate. The price of your insurance will depend on how far you’re traveling and how much you’re hauling.
While JK Moving does offer excellent customer service and support, we felt a bit of sticker shock when we heard how much our moves would cost. A long distance move requires a lot of packing and prep – and even more so if it’s across country – but $15,000 is pretty steep. We weren’t offered any discounts, but we asked Laura anyways.
Unfortunately, no dice: JK doesn’t offer any major discounts. While you may get better prices if you’re a little flexible on your moving date, this flexibility kickback doesn’t apply during the summer months. Plan accordingly and prepare your wallet.
It was tough to get a delivery estimate from JK Moving without going through a whole virtual survey. Going by the industry standard, our moves would range from a few days to a few weeks, depending on the day we actually decided to book our move. Unfortunately, Laura wasn’t able to give us a solid duration estimate without scheduling a room-by-room zoom call first.

Unfortunately, JK Moving didn’t offer us any discounts. The best we got was a hint of better prices outside of peak moving season. See if you can schedule your move between October and May, and you may be able to get a few bucks off for your flexibility.

Yes, JK Moving provides insurance coverage as required by federal regulations. They offer a minimum level of protection for customers’ belongings during the move, and they also offer full value protection for an additional price that depends on how much you’re hauling and how far you’re going.
While JK Moving is a reputable and experienced moving company, they do subcontract the actual transportation. However, Laura was clear that that their subcontracted movers are vetted and verified by JK Moving, and held up to their strict standards. According to their website, JK drivers and moving crews even train in a fully-furnished training home, a mockup house that’s situated in one of their warehouses.
Based on our experience, we can confidently recommend JK moving for your relocation. Laura kept us informed about what to expect on moving day, and she let us know about the variety of different services that are available through JK Moving. We were really impressed with what JK can offer, including their complimentary concierge service and packing options.
