The Moving Feedback team went undercover to get the inside scoop on ACME Relocation. Read on to see what we learned.
BEST TEAMS
The Moving Feedback team did the heavy lifting so you won’t have to. We posed as potential customers and called ACME Relocation about three separate moves, taking notes on their customer service, their range of moving options, and their pricing info to bring you a detailed picture of what you can expect from their team.
If you’re in a hurry and you want to cut right to the chase, go ahead and skip to our pricing breakdown, and check out our experience with ACME Relocation. Otherwise, read on to learn a little more about ACME’s background and see how they operate.
You’ve probably heard of them before: ACME Relocation is a pretty well-known name in the moving industry, and they have a nationwide reach.
They’re family-owned and have access to a broad network of vetted and verified moving teams. This means you can get a custom-tailored move that’s just right for what you need.
ACME doesn’t handle your move themselves. Instead, they subcontract moves to trusted NYC moving companies that are closest to you. Fortunately, ACME only works with the best in the business, and their subcontractors are held to high standards.
ACME will also be in charge of managing your entire move. Once you get a quote, their subcontractor won’t surprise you with a totally different estimate on moving day.

When we asked for quotes, we got a price window that ranged from $3050.77 to $6093.54. We called about three different moves, and got three different prices:
Distance of Move | Size of Move | Cost |
---|---|---|
CA to TX | 7000 lbs | $6,0093.00 |
CA to NY | 3500 lbs | $3,050.00 |
IL to TX | 7000 lbs | $5,515.00 |
First, we were quoted $6093.54 for a 1000 cubic-foot move from California to Texas.
Next, we asked about a 500 cubic-foot move from California to New York, and got a quote for $3050.77.
Finally, we asked about a 1000 cubic-foot move from Illinois to Texas, and received a quote for $5515.52.
What can you expect from your call with ACME Relocation? We got in touch and took plenty of notes. Here’s how the whole thing went down…
Like other moving companies, ACME has a phone menu to filter calls and send callers to the right department. Their robo-menu was pretty easy to use, and we got in touch with a real human in less than a minute.
When we called ACME, we were transferred to a department lead. He took down some basic information about our move, and then told us that a moving agent would be in touch with us sometime soon. While we didn’t have to wait on hold: instead, we had to wait about 40 minutes for a call back.
When ACME gave us a call back, it was our moving agent, Chris, on the other end of the line. Unfortunately, he was a bit aggressive and assertive. We’re not sure if it was an off day for him, or maybe he was really desperate to make a sale. In any case, we’re not fans of any kind of high-pressure sales approach.
When Chris asked us questions, it felt like an interrogation. When he told us about our moving options, it felt like the negotiations had run away from us, and we were about to pay for something we hadn’t even agreed to yet. You ever walk into a car dealership and they skip straight to talking to you about the paperwork they need you to sign? It was kind of like that.
ACME provides free storage for any move under 1000 cubic feet. Aside from that, they offer other goodies like boxing and packing. Unfortunately, if you want boxing, you’ll need to come up with an inventory list.
Chris wanted us to provide him with our own box count. When we told him we didn’t have a number, he finally caved and put us down for 50 boxes to start. However, we’d need to do another call to provide more information as we got closer to moving day.
ACME Relocation provides the base amount of insurance coverage: $0.60 per pound of items lost, damaged, or destroyed. When we asked about additional insurance, Chris told us that ACME has multiple partners that provide moving insurance, including Baker.
If you’re planning a move, keep in mind that you may be able to get your move covered by your homeowners or renters insurance provider. Not all policies extend to moving day, but it can’t hurt to ask.
Once Chris realized we weren’t going to be pushed around, he changed his tune. He offered us $500 off for trying to organize multiple moves at once, and an additional $500 if we booked immediately. This immediate reservation discount was only good for 24 hours.
ACME also provides veteran discounts. Chris asked if any of us were in the military, and he also mentioned that he could get us another discount for flexibility, depending on what season we had in mind for our move. He did warn us that the summer months were pretty busy and would be more expensive.
All told, our moves would take between 2 and 10 days. Our moves from California to Texas and Illinois to Texas would take between 2 and 5 to complete, while the move from California to New York would take between 2 and 10.
Move | Weight | Distance | Duration |
---|---|---|---|
Los Angeles to Austin | ~2,100 pounds (inventory list) | 1,383 miles | 10-20 Days |
Los Angeles to New York City | ~2,100 pounds (inventory list) | 2,799 miles | 10-20 Days |
Chicago to Austin | 3 Bedroom Home (Phone estimate) | 1,120 miles | 2-9 Days |
Don’t take our word for it – check out what customers are saying about Acme Relocation around the web:
“The pick up was the worst experience I ever had. The main person tried to ***** ** over and was very disrespectful. The drop off was very good The driver and his helper were very respectful and done a great job”
Dennis W. Via My BBB
“Everything went according to schedule and was done in a professional manner.”
Carole H. Via Angi
ACME Relocation offers discounts, but only on certain occasions or for specific circumstances. We were offered $1000 off, but that was $500 off for multiple moves and $500 off if we decided to book within 24 hours. There’s also a military discount.
We got moving windows that ranged from 2 to 10 days. However, the exact duration of your move will depend on how far you’re going and how much stuff you’re hauling.
Like other movers, ACME Relocation experiences peak demand during the summer months and around holidays. It’s a good idea to schedule your move well in advance if it falls within these high-demand periods.
ACME Relocation only offers basic insurance coverage for their moves: $0.60 per pound of items lost, damaged, or destroyed. Fortunately, ACME is partnered with moving insurance providers who can offer full-value coverage.
ACME subcontracts movers, but they keep their network of carriers on a pretty tight leash. Subcontracting allows ACME to provide a wider variety of services, without increasing the price on your end. They also manage your whole move, and don’t pawn all the administrative stuff off onto whoever’s in charge of the actual lifting and hauling.
Would we recommend ACME Relocation? Yes and no. They have some excellent services, and they do have a solid reputation. Plus, they have some hefty discounts to make moving day easier. But if our experience is any indication, it can be a little tough dealing with the forwardness of their sales reps.
Remember: as a potential customer, you have the power when you’re dealing with a sales rep or moving agent. No matter how assertive they are, no matter how little you may know, you’re the one who decides whether to move forward or not. Don’t be afraid to stomp the brakes – and walk away if necessary.
You made it to the end! Thanks for sticking with us. If you’re ready to get started with your move, don’t forget to check back in with the team at Moving Feedback for more tips, tricks, and insider info to make moving day even easier!
