---|---|---|
CA to TX | 7000 lbs | $6,0093.00 |

A Note About Quotes:
We wanted to get a full idea of Dumbo’s pricing structure, so we called about 3 different moves. However, it would have required a lot of legwork for their sales rep to send us 3 different estimates. Instead, he added the quotes for moves 2 and 3 on our first quote for ease of access.
It does beg the question, though: Would these included amounts be guaranteed quotes, or would Dumbo change our numbers if we called in again? To be safe, it’s always a good idea to ask for specific quotes for every move you’re planning.
First, we asked about a 1,000 cubic-foot move from California to Texas, and got a quote price for $6800.
Next, we asked about a 500 cubic-foot move from California to New York, and received a quote for $3900.
Finally, we asked about a 1,000 cubic-foot move from Illinois to Texas, which was quoted at $6500.
Their services sound solid, but how was our experience with the team at Dumbo Moving and Storage? Here’s how our call went…
Most movers these days use an automated robo-menu to filter calls and direct you to the right department. Not so with Dumbo. We got connected with a real, live human right off the bat. The phone probably rang like four times, tops.
Johnny answered our call and walked us through the entire booking process with ease. He was a real professional, and you could tell he’d been through the motions before. He asked us plenty of questions about our inventory, and was able to get us some ballpark estimates even though we didn’t have a full inventory list.
We’ve dealt with our fair share of moving agents, so we’re always on the lookout for pushy sales tactics or sales reps who just don’t care about their jobs. Fortunately, Johnny was on the level. He was very informative and detailed, and he kept us up to speed about what the move would take.
When we asked about extra services like packing and unpacking, Johnny was all ears. He explained that we could pay extra for full packing, and he provided us with a rough estimate for how many boxes the job would take even though we told him we didn’t know how many we’d need.
Every move is different, and what you need may be totally different than what we asked about when we called in. To be safe, it’s a good idea to call in and provide the specifics of your own move, including a detailed inventory list if possible.
Dumbo Moving and Storage does offer additional insurance coverage, but it starts off as a $400 extra. If you want the basic, bare-bones coverage, that comes included – but that only covers $0.60 per pound of items lost, damaged, or destroyed. Johnny also explained that they offer certain insurance coverage plans for specific fragile items on your moving list.
If you’re unsure about paying for insurance – or you’re trying to find a decent rate – it’s always a good idea to check with your renters or homeowners insurance provider. Sometimes the coverage you already have extends to moving day as well.
Johnny threw a couple of discounts at us, actually. First, we were offered $500 off if we decided to book all three moves at once, sort of like a bulk discount. Next, he knocked off a couple hundred from price of the California routes, since Dumbo oftentimes needs to fill up trucks that are on the return leg back to New York.
We asked about three different moves, and the California to Texas and California to New York moves would both take between 10 and 15 days. The Illinois to Texas trip would take 14 or 15 days, since Dumbo doesn’t usually operate that route.
Move | Weight | Distance | Duration |
---|---|---|---|
Los Angeles to Austin | ~2,100 pounds (inventory list) | 1,383 miles | 10-20 Days |
Los Angeles to New York City | ~2,100 pounds (inventory list) | 2,799 miles | 10-20 Days |
Chicago to Austin | 3 Bedroom Home (Phone estimate) | 1,120 miles | 2-9 Days |
Don’t take our word for it! Check out what customers are saying about Dumbo Moving and Storage around the web:
“These guys are great, and I was more than happy with everything about our move. We only booked them a week ahead. They were on time, careful, and efficient. Even when we had to move a couple things around at the new place since we had no idea where some more oversized items needed to go at first, they had a, ‘Sure, no problem” attitude. Would not hesitate to use them again.”
Devante Wiegand Via MyMovingReviews
“They did the job – they moved my stuff from one apartment to the next. Moving is a very stressful time and I did get frustrated by the movers’ attitude. I was moving a bedroom’s worth of belongings from a three-floor walk up to a ground floor apartment a few blocks away. They kept complaining about the amount of stuff that I had, refused to pack particular items (that would have definitely fit), and complained about the apartment.”

Dumbo Moving and Storage offers discounts, but only on a case-by-case basis. When we chatted with their sales rep, he offered us a discount for booking multiple moves at once. He also applied another discount for our California-based moves: Since Dumbo moves customers to California pretty frequently, they’re more than happy to fill up trucks on the return journey.
Our moves would take between 10 and 15 days for California to Texas and California to New York. However, our move from Illinois to Texas would take 14 – 15 days depending on availability. Dumbo can handle it no problem, but it’s just not a common route for them.
While exact busy periods can vary from mover to mover, they’re usually all much busier during the summer. Dumbo Moving and Storage is no exception. They experience higher demand between June, July, and August, so if you want to save big, try to avoid this window and other major holidays.
Dumbo Moving and Storage also offers insurance coverage. Aside from the federally mandated minimum of $0.60 per pound, they provide varying levels of extra protection for your belongings. You can also pick and choose certain items that need to be insured.
Dumbo does things a bit different. While most other movers are all in-house or all subcontracted, they’re a bit of both. They have their own in-house movers, and if they’re unavailable for a certain date, they can connect you with one of their vetted and verified subcontractors. Dumbo will still manage the whole process to keep things easy.
Overall, we had a really satisfying experience with Dumbo Moving and Storage. Johnny was quick with helpful info, and he also walked us through the specifics of our move so we knew what to expect. Aside from his excellent service, we also got some sweet discounts.
If you’re looking for someone to help you out with your move, Dumbo Moving and Storage is a great option. Get in touch with them today, and start packing!
