We asked Paramount Van Lines about 3 different moves, and our quoted prices ranged from $3900 to $6800. Here’s what you can expect.
Distance of Move | Size of Move | Cost |
---|---|---|
FL to CA | 5000 lbs | $6146.75 |
TX to NY | 3500 lbs | $2942.71 |
NY to CA | 7000 lbs | $7496.00 |
For our first move, we asked our Paramount rep about moving 5,000 pounds from Florida to California. Our price was $6146.75:
Next up, we asked Paramount Van Lines how much it would cost to move 500 cubic feet (about 3500 pounds) from Texas to New York. We were quoted $2942.71.
Finally, we asked Paramount about a 7000-pound/1000-cubic-foot move from New York to California. This was a bigger haul, so our quoted price came out to $7496.00.
Overall, we had a solid experience with Paramount Van Lines. Yes, good news may be boring – and it’s much more entertaining to tear into a moving company that tried to scam us – but the truth is, they were pleasant and professional all across the board. From our first call to collecting all those quotes, they were patient, informative, and helpful. Plus, they didn’t talk down to us for asking so many questions!
When we called up Paramount Van Lines, we didn’t have to wait very long. It was seriously less than a minute before we were connected with a human being. Other movers have made us run a whole obstacle course of robo-menus, so it was pretty refreshing to see that Paramount gets straight to the point.
We spoke with Scott, and he was a huge help. He didn’t try any high-pressure sales tactics. In fact, he asked us plenty of questions to make sure we were getting the services we needed, rather than paying for the stuff we could live without.
When we called up Paramount Van Lines, we had to act like we were complete rookies. This meant asking Scott plenty of questions, too, but he was patient and informative all the way through. It was reassuring to know that we weren’t being left in the dark.
Scott also took the time to walk us through the different services Paramount Van Lines offers. Aside from residential moving, Paramount provides commercial moving, storage, and packing. Plus, if you need to get your stuff moved ASAP, you can pay a little extra to get direct delivery.
We’ve seen a ton of moves in our time, so we know that no two relocations are alike. That’s why Paramount Van Lines lets you select different options from their menu of services. It takes a little more planning than choosing a one-and-done moving plan, but it means you won’t get charged for stuff you didn’t end up needing.
Paramount Van Lines offers basic insurance coverage. So does every other mover. (This is thanks to federal law.) Basic insurance coverage may be free, but it’s also only good for $0.60 per pound of damaged goods. Break a PS5? Enjoy that $6.00, I guess.
Fortunately, Paramount is also partnered with a third-party insurance provider in case you want full value insurance coverage. Sure, accidents are rare, but it’s valuable peace of mind knowing you’ll be reimbursed the actual value of your items instead of a weight-based payout.
We scored some pretty sweet discounts with Paramount Van Lines. The most notable was our tariff discount: This was up to a whopping 63% off on one of our moves (Texas to New York), and even on our other moves it was still around 50% off.
Aside from that hefty tariff discount, we also scored a flat discount for early reservation on the New York to California move. This cut our price by a cool $475.
Long distance moving typically takes between 1 and 21 days. Scott at Paramount Van Lines took the time to explain that there could be fluctuations in our delivery times depending on how many dropoffs or pickups were on the same route. However, he also mentioned that they offer direct delivery if we needed our stuff ASAP.
Move | Weight | Distance | Duration |
---|---|---|---|
Los Angeles to Austin | ~2,100 pounds (inventory list) | 1,383 miles | 10-20 Days |
Los Angeles to New York City | ~2,100 pounds (inventory list) | 2,799 miles | 10-20 Days |
Chicago to Austin | 3 Bedroom Home (Phone estimate) | 1,120 miles | 2-9 Days |
We were satisfied with Paramount Van Lines, and it looks like some of their other customers were satisfied, too. Take a look at some of these reviews we found floating around the internet:
“It was easy to move across the country with Edward and his team. They first noted down all my requirements, so they showed up on a moving day prepared. Watching them carefully pack up my possessions gave me the impression that they were pros in doing work. They were also very careful not to cause any scratches or blemishes. Thanks to Edward thorough updates, I was relaxed throughout the transfer.”

“The movers were really skilled. They handled our antiques with the utmost care. Definitely a good investment!”
John Lewis Via Trustpilot
Paramount Van Lines offers some pretty sizeable savings, most notably through their tariff discounts. This came out to around 50% for our moves. Aside from these, they also knock a few hundred bucks off if you book far enough in advance – from our experience, at least a month.
Every move is different, and most long distance relocations take between 1 and 21 days. This is largely thanks to federal rules and regulations: Drivers can’t clock more than 400 miles of interstate travel per day. But aside from the law, most moving companies bundle several moves together in the same truck or trailer to minimize empty space. They’ll keep everything separate and secure, but there’ll be delays for all those deliveries along the way.
Like every other moving company, Paramount Van Lines is most busy during the summer. June through August is peak moving season, and the prices show it. If you want to save big, take our advice and shoot for a move deep in the fall or springtime, preferably away from major holidays (or even weekends).
Paramount Van Lines offers basic insurance coverage. This is free, but it’s only good for $0.60 per pound. Fortunately they’ve also partnered with a third-party insurance provider if you want full value coverage.
Paramount Van Lines has their own network of trusted carriers. These carriers are experienced, well-trained, and really know the areas in which they operate. Paramount acts as a filter, protecting you from the sketchy operators whiles putting you in touch with the most trustworthy and reliable moving companies near you.
Overall, we had a great experience with Paramount. They really won us over with their transparency, clear communication (thanks, Scott!) and those must-have services that you can pick and choose from. If you’re thinking of getting in touch with a top rated moving company, we definitely recommend Paramount Van Lines.
